Last year’s COP27 left many feeling flat. I was one of them. And let’s be honest – the conference fell short of any real commitments to decarbonise with the necessary speed and urgency. As global temperatures continue to rise, it’s clear that businesses will need to take the most action to solve the challenges we now face.

​​With the world’s long-awaited transition to sustainable aviation remaining an ever-pressing issue, an emission reduction strategy is vital for decarbonising the sector.

The UK government’s Jet Zero Strategy, launched last July, is the blueprint for achieving net-zero aviation by 2050. It highlights vital objectives, which include boosting the country’s sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) sector and focusing on system efficiencies to reach net-zero emissions in domestic aviation by 2040.

Natural England has announced a £4.3 million funding package to trial carbon capturing and benefit a handful of projects across England.

Two firms have joined forces to permanently store carbon dioxide (CO2) in concrete using pioneering innovation to help fight climate change.

The ground-breaking partnership between Californian-based Heirloom and CarbonCure Technologies in Canada has seen CO2 captured in a series of tests via direct air capture (DAC) technology.

The milestone demonstration project has been underway at Heirloom’s headquarters in Brisbane, California, where the company runs America’s only operational DAC facility. The Microsoft-backed start-up uses limestone to extract CO2 from the air as it is inexpensive and easy to obtain.
