Are you a professional with a strong background in forest restoration, looking to drive large-scale, high-impact carbon projects that contribute to climate resilience?

Our client is a global innovator committed to excellence in the design, development, and operation of carbon projects, with a boots-on-the-ground approach to produce high-quality carbon offset credits.

The organisation is developing a high-impact project across Eastern and Western Cape of South Africa that aims to restore 10,000 hectares of native species in its first phase, while targeting to reforest 100,000 hectares, generating significant carbon offsets. It is for this reason that the team is looking to bring on board an experienced Carbon and Impact Manager to join their team.

As a Carbon and Impact Manager, you will report directly to the Head of South Africa and will be primarily responsible for driving transformation of forest restoration opportunities into registered and validated carbon removal projects, collaborating with field science colleagues, consultants, and Head-Co teams to refine protocols for monitoring, implementation, and validation.

This position requires frequent travel to project sites both within South Africa and potentially internationally, to ensure successful project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Lead the development and planning of project certification, including creating work plans, schedules, budgets, and ensuring project milestones are met.

  • Draft Project Design Documents (PDDs), establishing emissions baselines, and overseeing required surveys to ensure data accuracy and compliance.

  • Lead the monitoring, reporting, and verification (MRV) processes, ensuring compliance across applicable carbon offset standards such as VCS and CCB.

  • Coordinate technical reviews, qualitychecks, and participate in site visits to ensure project success.

  • Engage with local stakeholders to ensure understanding, buy-in, and alignment with project goals.

  • Identify potential risks and opportunities, developing plans to mitigate or exploit them for project success.

Key Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of international carbon standards, particularly VCS and CCB (Verra), and familiarity with forest carbon methodologies.

  • Experience drafting PDDs across VERRA methodology is essential.

  • Highly analytical and detail-oriented with a practical approach to problem-solving.

  • Strong technical skills in carbon modelling, data analysis, and forest biometrics.

  • Entrepreneurial, proactive, target-driven, and adaptable in different team and project settings.

  • Sound project management, analytical, and communication skills.

  • Fluent in spoken and written English. Additional language skills in Afrikaans are a plus.

This is a fantastic opportunity to work with a passionate interdisciplinary team of leading experts in the carbon marketplace while creating a tangible and large-scale impact on climate, communities, and biodiversity.
