Acre is delighted to partner with WaterEquity to help them identify a new Head of Infrastructure Investments. WaterEquity is an impact investment manager dedicated to mobilizing private sector investments in water and sanitation in emerging and frontier markets. Reporting directly to the CIO the Head of Infrastructure Investments will oversee all aspects of capital deployment and portfolio management for infrastructure investments and lead a global investment team.
WaterEquity's Water and Climate Resilience Fund deploys capital (mainly across private equity and mezzanine instruments) across the water and sanitation value chain with a focus on expanding access, improving water quality, and mitigating water scarcity for those at the base of the economic pyramid, and has raised $100m+ to date.
Job Responsibilities
Leading investment strategy and business growth: maintaining a singular focus on expanding access to water and sanitation, developing strategies to grow the infrastructure investment portfolio and diversify the investment universe; and
Leading the investment team: supervising five investment professionals (four regional directors and an investment manager), spanning project finance and growth equity asset classes, and retaining additional short-term contractors or consultants to bolster investment capacity and conduct third-party due diligences (technical, legal, tax, etc.) as needed.
Managing infrastructure investment vehicle: overseeing all aspects of capital deployment, including pipeline development and screening, due diligence and negotiation, and presentation of opportunities to the Infrastructure Investment Committee;
Coordinating and representing: leading internal coordination of investments with Operations, Finance, and Compliance groups; leading global coordination of technical assistance and support with Water.org and affiliates; pitching to prospective investors in the Water & Climate Resilience fund, in coordination with the Business Development team; and representing WaterEquity at sector events and investor discussions.
Skills and Qualifications
The successful applicant will be a motivated and proven manager with a passion for impact and an ability to oversee a diverse, versatile, and global team. S/he will have the following qualifications:
A master's degree in a relevant field, or equivalent professional experience;
Fifteen years of experience in finance/banking/investment in emerging markets;
A minimum of seven years of experience investing in private debt and equity in emerging markets;
An understanding of various types of infrastructure financing, including public-private; partnerships and project finance
Experience managing pooled fund vehicles and/or managed accounts;
Experience managing a remote, international team;
Strong communication and leadership skills;
A demonstrated commitment to social and environmental impact through impact investing;
Experience working with impact investors such as development finance institutions;
Demonstrated ability to design, launch, and scale new projects and initiatives; and
A willingness to travel internationally approximately 20-25 percent of the time.
In addition, the following qualifications are preferred.
Familiarity with technical assistance for emerging markets projects;
Experience with collaborative arrangements such as partnerships, strategic alliances, or joint ventures;
Connection to a professional network of investment contacts in emerging markets, ideally in the infrastructure space; and
Business fluency in languages other than English.
