Position Summary
Lemnis is seeking a highly motivated, experienced, and visionary leader looking for a new challenge to develop and lead our impact investment strategy aligned to our mission. Reporting to the CEO, the Head of Impact Investing will explore, analyze, and secure investment opportunities, primarily non-profit M&A, that advance our mission/vision for learners. This new role will have the opportunity to form a team and build systems to identify, close, and advance impact-driven investments, mergers, and acquisitions. Ultimately, this role will shape and construct a portfolio of investments and acquisitions that when brought together strategically advance our impact.
Critical to this role will be working collaboratively with the executive team, board of directors, program & impact team, and external partners to ensure the organization remains at the forefront of innovative philanthropic investment while delivering high-impact outcomes for learners.
Responsibilities
Develop and advance our impact investment strategy, particularly areas that advance mission-aligned non-profit opportunities.
Lead the development and execution of impact investing strategies, leveraging expertise in nonprofit operations and M&A to drive corporate development initiatives that align with organizational mission and financial objectives
Identify and cultivate strategic partnerships with other philanthropic organizations, non-profits, government agencies, and private sector entities to leverage resources, expertise, and identify strategic investment opportunities
Build a strategic investment pipeline with NGOs, manage preparation of written analyses and evaluations of investment opportunities, including assessment of risk, for use by the leadership team
Lead conversations and negotiations with entrepreneurs for strategic investment opportunities, including mergers and acquisitions, joint ventures, equity, debt, partnerships and other opportunities
Guide the development and support the execution of a comprehensive philanthropic impact investment strategy, including grantmaking, impact investing, and capacity-building initiatives focused on scaling innovative solutions in education
Manage and construct the organization's investment portfolio, including financial analysis, valuation, due diligence, deal structuring, negotiation, and closing, partnering with Legal and Finance
Oversee the tracking of portfolio company performance for annual reporting and provide post-investment support to portfolio companies as needed
Manage integration of acquired portfolio companies
Build and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders, including senior management, board of directors, investors, partners, and advisors
Provide thought leadership and insights on market trends, industry dynamics, and competitive landscape
Develop and implement systems to measure the social and financial impact of the organization’s investments and programs, using data and insights to refine strategies and maximize impact
Lead and mentor a team of investment professionals and analysts
Qualifications
15+ years of combined experience within and across any of the following corporate development, investment banking, private equity, or venture capital with a track record of successful deal execution and portfolio management
Broad exposure to many investment structures, including debt, equity, loans, funds, etc.
Proven experience in a senior leadership role within the philanthropic, non-profit, or impact investing sectors.
Strong commitment to and passion for the organization’s mission, values, and impact goals.
Deep understanding of the education landscape and a passion for driving systemic change that benefits learners, particularly those from underserved communities.
Strong strategic thinking, with the ability to translate vision into action and lead an organization through growth and change.
Exceptional communication, collaboration, and relationship-building skills, with the ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders.
Master’s degree in a relevant field (e.g., business administration, public policy, education, or non-profit management) preferred
Financial acumen, with experience in budgeting, financial oversight, and resource allocation.
