Minerals and metals are essential for modern living. Among other things, they enable farming, healthcare, communications, water and energy supply, transport, space technology and the construction of our cities.
Investments in natural resources do not always lead to positive social and economic outcomes for human wellbeing, our planet, or the prosperity of host communities and nations. This does not have to be the case; when mining and metals companies act responsibly, the extraction and management of natural resources can be transformative for the lives of employees, their families, local communities and entire nations.
Bringing together 27 mining and metals company members and over 35 national, regional and commodity association members, ICMM has a truly global reach, and uses this platform to strengthen the social and environmental performance of the mining and metals industry while building recognition of its contribution to local communities and society at large.
About this role:
We are looking for a dynamic and experienced senior innovation specialist to join ICMM's team, developing and implementing an innovation strategy for the mining and metals sector. This is a great time to join the team as the organisation embarks on a new three-year strategy. You will work closely with a project team of three colleagues leading and/or supporting ICMM's innovation portfolio.
You will have the opportunity to:
Lead ICMM's working groups in the Innovation for Cleaner, Safety Vehicle Initiative (ICSV) on minimising diesel particle matter (DPM) in underground operations and promoting collision avoidance solutions
Support ICMM's working groups in the Innovation for Cleaner, Safety Vehicle Initiative on zero-emissions solutions for surface mining transportation
Support ICMM's working group to advance progress and accelerate the implementation of tailings reduction initiatives across the industry
Facilitate workshops, peer-to-peer exchange and multi-stakeholder forums across all key innovation areas
Engage key stakeholders to scope and develop a clear leadership role for the industry in supporting the achievement of the Innovation for Cleaner, Safety Vehicle Initiative ambitions and the successful implementation of the ICMM Tailings Reduction Roadmap
Develop external relationships and partnerships to build awareness and champion improved performance in the wider sector and value chain
Measure and monitor the progress of project delivery
Working within ICMM's matrix structure, you will have the opportunity to actively engage in other aspects of the broader ICMM work programme, applying your unique experience and expertise to strengthen the industry's contribution to the sustainable development agenda.
About you:
You will share the ICMM's passion for sustainability and have experience in managing collaborative efforts on innovation for technology development and implementation, ideally within a consultancy, company, government, civil society, or association. Ideally, you will have knowledge of the extractives industry and experience working in or with corporate business across the areas of innovation, sustainability and/or international development.
You will be a creative and strategic thinker with the ability to lead project teams. You will have excellent interpersonal, communication, and engagement skills, with the ability to build, maintain and leverage relationships both internally and across multiple external stakeholder groups.
Have we piqued your interest?
ICMM's approach is anchored in collaboration, bringing together industry and broader stakeholders such as investors, suppliers, communities, Indigenous Peoples, academia, and civil society to achieve their vision of a safe, just and sustainable world, enabled by responsibly produced minerals and metals.
Apply below if you're motivated by the thought of helping ICMM continue to drive real, meaningful change in the metals and mining industry. If you have any questions, please contact Greg Walker at greg.walker@acre.com.
This role, and all roles at ICMM, are open to candidates from any and all geographic regions.
