ABOUT THE ROLE
The Director, Environmental Sustainability role at SC Johnson is a leader responsible for leading the development, implementation and governance of the company's carbon & climate strategies. In addition, this role will oversee the development and governance of waste, deforestation & nature strategies.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Provides subject matter expertise to guide the development and implementation of the enterprise-wide carbon strategy
Oversees enterprise carbon accounting approach and annual GHG inventory; ensures adherence with industry standards and ability to meet both regulatory and voluntary reporting requirements
Collaborates with cross-functional teams, providing subject matter expertise and guidance necessary to define, evaluate and progress sustainability initiatives.
Regularly assesses the organization's environmental sustainability performance against industry peers and best practices, while also monitoring legislation, regulations, and industry trends related to climate and environment.
Leads governance for carbon and waste, including establishing standards/processes and engaging with external partners on data assurance/auditing.
Develop metrics and KPIs to track progress towards sustainability targets and report on performance to senior management and stakeholders.
Represent the organization in external forums, conferences, and working groups focused on climate and nature sustainability.
Establish partnerships with environmental organizations, research institutions, and government
REQUIRED EXPERIENCE YOU'LL BRING
Bachelor's degree in sustainability, environmental science, finance, business analytics, or related field; advanced degree highly preferred.
10+ years of relevant experience leading carbon/climate strategy or ESG reporting with a global manufacturing company
5+ years of leading inventories of Scopes 1, 2, and 3 for a public corporation with complex/global supply chains
5- years leading the development of climate-related disclosures (TCFD, CDP and other climate disclosures) commonly seen in sustainability reporting and filings
PREFERRED EXPERIENCES AND SKILLS
Thorough knowledge of environmental and sustainability regulations, standards, and reporting frameworks
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills with the ability to effectively communicate complex ESG concepts and data to diverse audiences.
Ability to engage effectively with executive leadership and speak with confidence about environmental sustainability topics
Experience developing and utilizing life cycle analysis and other quantitative tools to guide organizational action planning and decision-making
Strong project management skills with the ability to lead cross-functional teams, manage multiple projects simultaneously, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Leadership experience with a track record of driving change, fostering collaboration, and building consensus across organizational levels.
