Acre is supporting the recruitment of a Sustainability Manager, a newly created role, to join a prestigious UK-based private equity firm which provides growth capital for small and mid-sized businesses across a wide range of industry sectors.

The role can be based in London or other UK offices.

Reporting to the Head of ESG & Impact, the Sustainability Manager will support the next phase of the firm’s sustainability strategy; the firm’s approach to positive growth, emphasising climate and nature-based risks and opportunities.

This position will focus on supporting our client’s internal performance, by identifying key areas for improvement and also engaging with portfolio companies. Additionally, helping to drive sustainability practices by ensuring alignment with relevant reporting standards.

This is an opportunity for someone to gain valuable experience in sustainability strategy, risk management and stakeholder engagement, in support of career development.

There are three main areas of responsibility:

(1) Supporting with the development and delivery of the firm’s internal sustainability strategy

  • Ongoing engagement and monitoring of firm’s signatory commitments, including the PRI helping to evolve and maintain the firm's standing as a responsible investor.

  • Working across offices to inform and engage both internal and external stakeholders on ESG performance, which includes participation in the firm’s green investment committee.

(2) Portfolio Support

  • Engaging with portfolio companies to promote best practices in sustainability, providing guidance and support to enhance their ESG performance.

  • Proactively monitor regulatory developments and industry trends to anticipate emerging requirements and adapt the firm's practices accordingly, ensuring compliance and fostering transparency in reporting on sustainability-related matters.


(3) Standards Compliance

  • Conduct horizon scanning to ensure alignment with UK and EU-focused reporting standards, including the UK Sustainable Disclosure Requirements (SDR), Task Force on Climate-related Financial Disclosures (TCFD), and Taskforce on Nature-related Financial Disclosures (TNFD).

Experience and competencies sought:

We welcome applicants from a range of sector backgrounds, with 2-6 years of sustainability/ESG experience gained in-house or in consulting.

It’s envisioned the successful individual will be able to further shape the progression of the role and define areas of focus as the role evolves, according to strengths, interests, and aspirations.

  • Any knowledge or experience of supporting the development and delivery of actionable climate initiatives for business.

  • Possesses the potential to be proactive in identifying opportunities and challenges related to climate risk and sustainability.

  • Familiarity with UK or EU reporting standards such as SDR, TCFD, and TNFD.

  • Ability to engage effectively with internal teams and external partners, fostering collaboration and driving initiatives forward.
