We are partnering with a midmarket PE fund to advise through the recruitment of their ESG lead. This role will sit within their London office.
The Role
The ESG Lead will interact and advise on ESG matters, defining the ESG strategy and roadmap that supports investors' interests and firm goals whilst building strong relationships with the investment teams, operation teams and management teams of portfolio companies on the implementation of ESG initiatives to protect and create value in the portfolio. They will have an opportunity to participate in designing leading industry practices and managing the implementation of these across the fund's policies and strategic initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
Conducting ESG diligence to assess assets' ESG maturity and identify any material ESG red flags and respective recommendations for consideration by the Investment Committee
Working with internal teams, external advisers, and portfolio companies Management, supporting annual monitoring, investors' reporting and implementation of ESG initiatives to enable value protection and value creation
Supporting formal and ad-hoc ESG reporting to key stakeholders, such as investors
Support internal communication on ESG topics, including internal presentations and social media communications
Support communication and engagement with external stakeholders, including investors and industry networks
Support ESG training initiatives across the business and portfolio companies
Chair and drive an ESG programme and respective initiatives, building the company's ESG profile and supporting on development and execution of the programme whilst managing the internal budget available for ESG initiatives
Help with the preparation of annual reporting obligations for the Firm as well as portfolio companies while coordinating with Legal and Compliance (e.g., SFDR, TCFD, UNPRI, UK Stewardship Code, etc.)
Required skills and personal attributes
Ability and drive to work independently whilst being an integral part of the business
A strong cross-team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills, positive and outgoing in nature, able to interact and engage with various stakeholders incl. senior level decision-makers and more operational stakeholders
Service-oriented and diligent
Ability to deliver to tight deadlines and simultaneously manage multiple priorities and workstreams
Experience with ESG KPIs / metrics mandatory
Experience with key sustainability-related regulations and standards, including SFDR, EU Taxonomy, TCFD, UK Stewardship Code, UNPRI, CSRD, SASB, GRI, etc., preferred
