Acre is excited to announce our partnership with FMO, the Dutch entrepreneurial development bank. We are looking to appoint an Environmental & Social Manager to work across their Agriculture, Food & Water sectors in developing countries and emerging economies across the globe, based in the Hague.
Their mission is to create a more sustainable future through private sector investments to create and support jobs by investing in ambitious projects and entrepreneurs, focusing on generating income and long-term business growth.
As an Environmental & Social Manager, you will report to the Director of ESG and be primarily responsible for overseeing and managing transactions, E&S due diligence and monitoring, sector trends and supervising and enhancing the AFW E&S teams' performance. This role will have high visibility internally and externally and will require interacting regularly with deal teams, FMO partners and key stakeholders, as well as representing the organization at environmental, social, and human rights events.
Key Responsibilities:
Lead a team of E&S officers, motivating and contributing to their career development.
Oversee and manage E&S due diligences of prospect investments projects across various sectors such as agriculture, food and water.
Strengthen corporate and ESG performance management initiatives, ensuring alignment with corporate ESG targets of 95% and FMO's Strategy 2030.
Advise on environmental, social, and human rights priorities, contributing to the ongoing enhancement of policies and processes relevant to the Agri, Food & Water portfolio, such as the implementation of the forestry strategy.
Support and collaborate on strategic projects and initiatives with other ESG+ Managers. Supporting the Sustainability Integration team in implementation of relevant due diligence initiatives and operationalizing the Climate Action project.
Key Requirements:
Over ten years of experience across E&S due diligence in an international context gained either in consulting or an in-house role within a Development Financial Institution, or private markets investor.
Demonstrated years of experience in successfully managing teams.
Master's university degree in environmental management, economics, social science, engineering or a related field.
Proven track record working with international financial institutions standards, including the IFC Performance Standards (IFC PS), the UN Guiding Principles on Business and Human Rights (UNGPs), and the Voluntary Guidelines on the Responsible Governance of Tenure (VGGT).
Robust experience working across emerging markets, ideally Latin America, Africa and Asia Pacific.
Robust skills in identifying and prioritizing environmental, social, and human rights risks and opportunities.
Strong experience across the financial sector, with ideal background in Agribusiness context.
Knowledge of supply chain certificates such as UTZ, Rainforest Alliance, etc., and familiarity with industry standards (RSPO, RTRS, Bonsucro, etc.).
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, especially in complex environmental and social issues that can be understood by various stakeholders.
Strong interpersonal skills and stakeholder management skills, having the ability to work collaboratively in an international and fast-paced team environment.
Fluent in spoken and written English. Additional language skills are a plus.
