Purpose of Job

Lead Sustainable Fuels as a pillar of the overall SHV Energy strategy, translate this into a functional area strategy, and take responsibility for the global implementation. Define and implement the Sustainable Fuels strategy and manage the processes within the own Core Team, in compliance with business strategy and policies endorsed by the Executive Board of Directors of the company, in order to achieve the budgeted contribution and returns as well as ensure (future) commercial excellence.

Key Responsibilities

  • Drive the development of overall SHV Energy sustainable fuels strategy and formulate, implement and monitor Delivery & Development objectives for the Core Team, in line with guidelines from SHV Energy and the defined yearly budget/investment proposals.

  • Lead the Sustainable Fuels Management Team process to ensure implementation and realization of Sustainable Fuels strategy, execution of annual plan, monitoring of financial developments and budget, evaluation of strategy and progress, take corrective actions and continuously steer performance.

  • Provide leadership to the strategic/functional competence (i.e. setting individual objectives, reviewing performance and providing ongoing feedback on a formal & informal basis).

  • Monitor energy transition market trends and development with a view to distilling relevant market trends to adjust and refine SHV Energy's strategy and provide SHV Energy with a broader perspective on the energy transition and implications for SHV Energy.

  • Manage and coach team, motivate employees through sincere and concrete feedback and take appropriate action when needed, stimulate team cooperation and mobility and ensure succession planning, utilizing available instruments, service and procedures.

  • Embrace and propagate the SHV Energy culture for the Core Team, leading by example. Commit to the SHV Energy strategic agenda and realize changes across the organization.

  • Perform in-depth market and customer analysis with a high degree of responsibility and autonomy, supporting the final delivery of feasibility studies and investment proposals for the further development of commercial /collaboration/acquisition opportunities to realise SHV Energy's sustainable fuels ambitions.

  • Oversee M&A process with the support of the M&A team, ensure co-ordination of due diligence with internal and external specialists and structure and negotiate transactions with shareholders and management of targets.

  • Responsible for managing the existing portfolio of investments (R&D, Joint Ventures and Demonstration projects) while ensuring the proper landing of SHV's Energy processes and securing their successful integration into SHV's existing decentralised organisational model. This requires working closely with the management of portfolio companies to deliver on improvement potential identified in due diligence, defining growth strategy for JVs / portfolio companies and supporting the management of portfolio companies to deliver on growth, new product development, and continuous improvement.

  • Ensure anticipation, analysis and assessment of risks and/or threats as well as their potential impact at the organizational level and ensure relevant preventive measures are implemented.

  • Build and maintain a network of relevant and strategic level (external) stakeholders/partners and represent SHV Energy on various associations, subject matter expert forums and think tank settings. Strong understanding of the policy frameworks in all relevant geographies and strong collaboration with the Public Affairs community for key dossiers and topics.

Key Skills and Requirements

  • Academic qualification in business, engineering, finance, or any other relevant field of study

  • Minimum of 15 years of work experience, with a minimum 10 in strategic roles in the international (renewable) energy market

  • Understanding of the various pathways to sustainable liquid gas production

  • Track record of managing R&D projects

  • A strong record of accomplishment of successful investment, board representation, portfolio company support, and portfolio management

  • An existing network in the energy sector at a global scale

  • Excellent command of English and strong public speaking ability

  • The willingness to travel internationally for an extended period.
