Acre is working with a leading FTSE-listed manufacturing business, seeking a Sustainability Manager focused on Forest and Nature for an initial 6-month contract. In a nutshell, you will be essential in ensuring the company's readiness for the EU Deforestation Regulation (EUDR) and addressing broader deforestation impacts on the business.
Nature is one of the four core pillars of the company-wide sustainability strategy, with forestry playing a crucial role in both the commitment to nature and to the supply chain. As the Sustainability Manager for Forest and Nature, you will serve as the company's expert in these areas. Your role will involve leading initiatives to protect and restore natural ecosystems, aligning with emerging nature-focused reporting standards such as the TNFD, and collaborating closely with our ESG Reporting.
Key Responsibilities:
Prepare the business to meet EUDR requirements, including establishing a centralized knowledge base with FAQs, policies, and training materials accessible to all employees
Ensure compliance with chain-of-custody forest certification, providing online training for customer-facing colleagues
Develop and lead the approach for setting Science-Based Targets for Nature (SBTN) and drive initiatives to meet Now & Next sustainability goals, especially regarding No Deforestation and biodiversity
Collaborate with procurement and responsible sourcing teams to coordinate nature-related activities across the Nature Steering Committee and guide policy development
Lead the creation of a company-wide No Deforestation policy, assessing risk, costs, and system requirements, and overseeing implementation
Partner with colleagues to gather data for FLAG (Forest, Land, Agriculture, and Greenhouse Gas) emission calculations and manage the Impacts and Dependencies on Nature Assessment, partnering with external consultants to finalise a Nature Strategy
Represent the company in industry nature-related taskforces, such as CEPI and FEFCO, and provide updates to internal teams
Required Skills and Experience:
Expertise in one or more of the following areas: forestry, biodiversity, environmental policy, EUDR, TNFD, SBTN, FLAG emissions, CSDDD, or related due diligence requirements
At least 3 years in a nature-focused sustainability role, preferably within the manufacturing industry or a large corporate setting
Proven ability to engage and lead cross-departmental initiatives, with experience coordinating activities across diverse teams
