We are delighted to partner with Aldersgate Group, as they appoint their next Executive Director.
The Aldersgate Group is an alliance of leaders from business, politics and civil society that drives action for a sustainable and competitive economy. They are politically impartial and champion the important role of the business sector in moving the UK towards a thriving, zero-carbon, resource efficient and nature-positive economy.
The Group's members include some of the largest businesses in the UK from a wide range of economic sectors, with a collective global turnover of around £600bn. Other valued members include leading NGOs, professional institutes, public sector bodies and academic institutions.
The Group has been heavily involved in the setting of the UK's net zero target and development of the Net Zero Strategy, the ongoing development of the Environment Act, and the government's flagship strategies on buildings and heat, industrial decarbonisation, green finance, low carbon skills and resource efficiency.
The Role:
The Executive Director will lead the increasing impact of Aldersgate, oversee the Group’s team of ten employees and deliver its overall work programme. They will act as the lead spokesperson for the Group with high-profile media, political, business and civil society audiences, be responsible for maintaining good quality engagement with all the Group’s member organisations and lead the Group’s targeted membership growth and funding diversification strategy.
This person will ideally:
Be a well-respected thought leader on climate change, the environment and the low-carbon economy with a broad policy knowledge
Recognise the important role that progressive businesses have to play in tackling environmental challenges
Be a confident public speaker and leader
Demonstrate broad policy knowledge of climate and environmental issues
Have experience in organisational development, income generation and fundraising
Have experience in managing and supporting colleagues, and creating a cohesive team environment
Key responsibilities include:
Providing overall strategic direction and growth for Aldersgate, including delivery of the Group's work programme, policy impact, political and media engagement, and membership and funding strategy
Managing and motivating a team of ten people
Maintaining and regularly updating a funding strategy for the organisation, with a focus on membership retention, membership growth, diversification of philanthropic funding and exploring different avenues to support income generation
Building and maintaining excellent relationships with Aldersgate Group members, ensuring their regular involvement in all aspects of Aldersgate Group work
Overseeing the recruitment of new member organisations
Making regular and targeted contributions to the Aldersgate Group's policy, public affairs and communications priorities
Acting as the lead representative of the Aldersgate Group with ministers, civil servants and parliamentarians and as the lead spokesperson for media interviews
