The global climate crisis requires us to reduce global GHG to net-zero emissions by 2050 in line with the Paris 1.5 agreement; to do so whilst feeding 10 Billion people sustainably, is the greatest challenge of our lifetime.
If you are currently working in environmental footprinting and providing the foundations for impact, yet not part of a journey where this impact is being delivered, Olam's newly created Environmental Footprinting team offers a unique opportunity to turn your expertise into action.
With reach in over 60 countries, Olam's scope for impact on our global challenge is huge, and Olam's digital information systems collect granular environmental data from hundreds of thousands of farmers, from smallholders in tropical cotton and cashew landscapes to extensive, high-tech estate crops from Australia (Almonds) to Zambia (Coffee).
In 2018 Olam launched its breakthrough agri sustainability insights platform, the multi-award-winning AtSource. The Footprinting team will help power AtSource's evolution and, in partnership with Olam businesses, will develop the models, data and insights to drive impactful partnerships and form the basis for Olam's growing portfolio of sustainability services and value-added product offerings.
As the Lead Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) Modeller, you will be a key member of the newly established 'Footprinting' team within Olam's Global CR&S team, reporting to the Footprinting Manager.
You will play a critical role in creating credible models to deliver environmental footprints. This is a global role which will require collaboration with multiple stakeholders, including Manufacturing and Technical Services (MATS) global processing function, business units such as AtSource, Spices, Coffee, Cocoa, Edible Nuts, and Dairy, as well as third-party service providers. Leveraging these partnerships will, in turn, enable you to deliver consistent, accurate and timely footprints.
You will also have the opportunity to:
Create models to perform complex LCAs in the context of wide-ranging projects
Work with the Footprint team to acquire accurate data for models covering e.g. climate, water, soils, energy use, full life cycle of agri crops in a broad range of products and production systems as well as geographic origins.
Identify inconsistencies with data and resolve issues, capturing issues for learning purposes
Use expertise in modelling to drive insights and positive change
Identify opportunities to automate data collection with LCA analysts to meet customer needs
Generate insight from large amounts of data – presentations and reports
Document footprinting methodology
You will have:
Excellent analytical skills applying various LCA software. We would expect extensive experience in one of the main tools including GaBi, OpenLCA or SimaPro etc. and advanced competency in Microsoft Excel
Ability to work closely with data analysts, collaborating on data needs and acquisition
Experience of gathering and manipulating environmental data
Experience with large data sets
Enthusiasm for intensive use of data/high level of focus and attention to detail
Knowledge of agricultural systems (e.g., a thorough understanding of components of LCA for crops, ideally including experience with Olam products such as Cocoa; Coffee, Edible nuts, Cotton, various Row Crops and dairy systems etc.)
Educated to Masters/PhD level in LCAs
Proven track record of innovation in LCA (e.g. peer-reviewed papers, creation of models and tools)
