Gender
Recent years have seen more women making an impact in what has traditionally been a male-dominated sector. Even so, the overall number of women working in HSE remains relatively low, with the gender split ratio standing at 3:1 in favour of males.

The Pay Gap
The average annual salary for males is £60k, while the average for women is much lower at £49k. This represents an 18% difference, significantly higher than the 9.1% national average reported in 2017 by the Office for National Statistics.

North vs South
As to the great North/South divide debate this is not always the case. To a certain extent, the average salary decreases the further you get from London, with the study showing a divide of around £11k between north and south, reducing to £5k if you take London out the equation.

Job Satisfaction
Our survey has revealed that on the whole, practitioners enjoy what they do, with 64% saying they are ‘satisfied’ or ‘very satisfied’ within their roles. The data has uncovered strong associations between the feeling of being challenged and feeling secure in one’s role and job satisfaction.
