A major retailer with operations in Hawassa is looking to appoint an Outreach Director, who will work with international donors, government and investors to help build the community infrastructure in a socially and environmentally sustainable way.
Hawassa Industrial Park (HIP) is the flagship project of the Ethiopian Government's Industrial Park Development Commission (IPDC) and upon completion will be a 300-hectare eco-friendly park, focused on textile and garment production.
HIP is projected to create more jobs in the region than generated in the past 50 years. The park's investors hope to hire 40,000-60,000 workers over the next three years, and a significant number of related jobs are expected to be created in Hawassa and surrounding communities.
This groundbreaking role sits within the Hawassa Industrial Park Investors Association which has been established to allow like-minded Investors to work together on social, economic and environmental matters that impact HIP as a whole.
This work ranges from the establishment and adoption of a code of conduct for park Investors to promoting the establishment of workers' committees and exploring innovative transport and housing solutions, including for workers migrating to the area.
This position will specifically direct and manage 'outside of the Park' work on behalf of the Investors Association, with a particular focus on:
Managing stakeholder relationships with International Development agencies, government agencies and other potential donor groups with the aim of accessing funds for social, environmental and infrastructure projects in Hawassa Driving a government relations strategy to influence and assist in key policy decisions
Ensuring donor led projects in Hawassa are Focused, strategized and streamlined to the HIP sustainable growth goals
Experience working with and knowledge of International Development agencies and other donor/grant organisations and/or related diplomatic experience Experience of managing projects that have received donor funding including understanding relevant reporting requirements Government relations experience is preferred Ability and willingness to prepare and deliver effective presentations to both small and large audiences Experience working on Corporate Responsibility or Inclusive Business is preferred Experience working in the Sub-Saharan African region is preferred
