Acre is engaged on a retained basis to oversee the appointment of a Sustainability Manager for Astorg, a highly acclaimed European private equity firm offering a collaborative, open and entrepreneurial culture.

This is an exciting opportunity develop and implement Astorg's long term Environmental, Social and Governance (ESG) strategy and policies that support value creation. Reporting into the C-suite of Astorg, the appointment is fully supported by the leadership team and will build on Astorg's commitment to being a responsible investor.

In a spirit of genuine partnership, Astorg invests in high-potential companies in the B2B, healthcare and manufacturing sectors, which are often family owned and backed by management teams combining operational success with an entrepreneurial drive. Investee companies are in Europe with global customer bases and supply chains.

Currently with €4 billion of assets under management and generating an annualised portfolio return of 27.5% on the 28 realised investments (as at end of December 2016). Astorg is consistently in the top 10 HEC-Dow Jones yearly global ranking. The majority of investors are global institutional investors such as pension funds, sovereign wealth funds and banks.

Responsibilities Include:

  • Lead the development of Astorg ESG strategy for all stages of the investment process, pre-investment, acquisition, monitoring and exit
  • In close collaboration with the deal teams, ensure that existing and new assets are effectively managed in terms of ESG risks and opportunities and are compliant with corporate and local standards and policies
  • Conduct ESG reviews and audits, in partnership with external consultants if necessary, to provide strategic guidance on ESG issues at the pre-investment and post-acquisition stages
  • Build relationships and engage with the top executive and senior managers of investee companies to support the improvement of ESG performance and risk management
  • Leading a working group composed of ESG sponsors from the portfolio companies in order to contribute to best practice implementation and catalyse ESG advancements
  • Deliver key metrics and targets to monitor performance for ESG reporting
  • Supporting external communication to investors and stakeholders on material developments in Astorg's ESG performance
The successful candidate will have sustainability experience gained in complex, international large corporations in relevant industry sectors such as healthcare, pharmaceuticals, manufacturing or FMCG. This will include experience of sustainability reporting and developing measurement frameworks.

  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills
  • The ability to influence a range of stakeholders at various levels of seniority
  • Creative thinking for improving ESG practices and affecting change
  • Ability to work autonomously with a hands-on approach
  • Fluency in English and proficiency in French is required
