Acre is engaged on a retained basis to recruit an ESG Manager / Sustainability Manager for the London office of a leading private equity firm. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute to our client's long-term Environment, Social and Governance (ESG) programme; to further integrate ESG factors into their portfolio companies and at fund level.

This appointment will build on our client's commitment to being a responsible investor by supporting strategy and policies that both protect and create value.

Our client invests in a range of industry sectors including consumer, industrial and business services ranging in size and complexity with a global customer base and supply chains. Their clients are international top tier institutional investors including private and public pension funds.

Responsibilities:

In addition to supporting the development of ESG strategy for all stages of the investment process, pre-investment, acquisition, monitoring and exit, responsibilities include:

  • Working closely with deal teams to ensure that ESG risks and opportunities and are compliant with corporate and local standards and policies and providing training
  • Conducting ESG reviews and audits, in partnership with external consultants if necessary, to provide strategic guidance on ESG issues
  • To deliver and manage portfolio companies' key ESG metrics and targets to monitor performance for ESG reporting
  • Building relationships and engaging with the top executive and senior managers of investee companies to catalyse ESG advancements
  • Supporting external communication to investors and stakeholders on material developments in ESG performance
Experience sought:

The successful candidate will offer technical sustainability experience gained in either large complex international corporations or within a sustainability/ESG focused position within an environmental consultancy or a 'Big 4' consulting practice.

Examples of expertise could be in Environment, Health and Safety (EHS), environmental / social supply chain management, waste, energy management or ESG due diligence. Other areas could be consulting on the TCFD requirements, energy transition risk framework development, designing metrics for sustainability reporting on impact.

Competencies Sought:

  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills
  • The ability to influence a range of stakeholders at various levels of seniority
  • Creative thinking for improving ESG practices and affecting change
  • Ability to work autonomously with a hands-on approach
Fluency in English is essential and proficiency in German or Swedish highly beneficial.
