The Accord on Fire and Building Safety in Bangladesh ("Accord") is a historic agreement between the Global Unions IndustriALL, and UNI, and over two hundred of the world's best known apparel Brands and Retailers, to improve safety standards in the Bangladeshi textile and garment industries.

Acre has been engaged to identify a Chief Safety Inspector who will join the Accord at a time when more than 1400 covered factories have been inspected. Reporting to the Steering Committee; the successful candidate will be responsible for driving forward the completion of the safety remediation programme at these factories.

Additional responsibilities will include:

Developing, supervising and monitoring performance of Bangladesh inspection staff
Overseeing and managing all Bangladesh inspection operations and administration
Leading an inspectorate capable of efficiently and professionally evaluating fire and electrical safety, structural safety, and worker safety
Reporting findings of inspections to factory owners, Brands and the public as required by the Accord
Supporting the Bangladesh government, employers, and trade unions to meet their respective mandates on factory safety and safety enforcement

Alongside the Accord's Executive Director, this is the keystone hire for the Accord and is integral to the success of the initiative. It will be an extremely demanding but highly rewarding position.

The Chief Safety Inspector will:

Be an individual of upmost integrity
Have proven experience of establishing and leading a group of safety professionals in a challenging environment
Have thorough knowledge and extensive practical experience of building and fire safety codes
Have a high level of social and cultural sensitivity with knowledge of human and labour rights being highly beneficial
Be degree educated in a related subject such as civil, structural or fire engineering
Be courageous and resilient
Have extensive experience of working in developing countries

Acre is working in partnership with the Better Cotton Initiative (BCI) to identify a Senior Fundraising Manager.

The BCI is a not-for-profit organisation stewarding the global standards for Better Cotton, and bringing together cotton's complex supply chain, from farmers to retailers and brands. They are taking the next big step forwards, from working with 1,500,000 farmers to over 5,000,000 farmers and further increasing their membership portfolio. Instrumental in achieving this goal will be to develop the Growth and Innovation Fund (GIF) managed by the Sustainable Trade Initiative (IDH). The Fund currently supports Better Cotton projects in more than 20 countries across five regions of the world. Its annual value is forecast to grow from €11m in 2016 to around €35m by 2020.

Responsibilities:

Contribute to the ongoing development and review of BCI's strategy and future direction
Build capacity within BCI and prepare the organisation for winning and delivering €multi-million grants, with total ownership of the overall fundraising strategy
Represent the BCI at key donor conferences and meetings to build continuous support for the organisation
Recruit new funding partners into the Growth & Innovation Fund using advanced negotiating skills, building multi-year funding partnership agreements
Build funding proposals based on project plans, co-developed with relevant member(s) of the BCI delivery teams
